NamPower_at_Orange_Vise.jpgHave you downloaded your copy of the Nampower Resource Guide yet? Even if you have, you may have missed something important. In the section called “Typical NamPower Applications”, this free technical book from Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM) describes the many uses of NamPower nylon abrasive brushing tools. Still, that’s not all that manufacturers need to know about base materials.

Metal Finishing and More

NamPower - MetalIf you’re familiar with NamPower technology, then you probably know that these brushing tools are ideal for outer diameter (OD) surface preparation, deburring, and surface improvement. NamPower brushes are great for surface roughing and spot finishing, too. What you might not know, however, is that NamPower brushes can be used with different base materials in various applications.

For example, did you know that NamPower nylon abrasive brushes can remove the glue and flash from rubber and plastic parts? NamPower brushing tools can also clean pre-cast concrete molds and fiberglass. These examples prove that NamPower technology is versatile, but what are the best base materials to use with these high-quality brushing tools? For that matter, which industrial applications get great results?

Surface Finishing for Stainless Steel, low and medium Carbon Steels, and Cast Iron

Simply put, the best base materials for NamPower brushing tools are stainless steel, low and medium carbon steels, and cast iron. If you’ve read the Flex-Hone® Resource Guide before, then you might see something here that looks familiar. These are the same base materials that manufacturers surface-finish and deburr with silicon carbide (SC) Flex-Hone® tools.

Flexible hones aren’t for OD applications, but consider which abrasive is used in many NamPower tools. Standard NamPower disc brushes use a combination of silicon carbide and white ceramic abrasive The NamPower family also includes mini disc brushes with silicon carbide and blue ceramic, or blue ceramic only. Blue ceramic is available upon special request. BRM supplies NamPower wheel brushes with diamond abrasive, too.

Surface Finishing for Aluminum Extrusions

NamPower - Aluminum ExtrusionsThe NamPower family’s unique blend of silicon carbide and white or blue ceramic abrasive isn’t all you need to know about. In addition to stainless steel, low and medium carbon steels, and cast iron, what other base material get great results from NamPower technology? NamPower nylon abrasive brushes in finer grit are especially effective on aluminum parts – and that’s good news for aluminum extruders and fabricators.

From condenser tubes, air conditioners, and automotive radiators to the heat sinks used in electronics products, manufacturers need aluminum extrusions that are burr-free and slightly radiused. That’s why leading companies in the automotive, electronics, and appliance industries use NamPower brushes to finish extruded shapes. NamPower brushes also blend tool marks after machining or grinding.

Get a Great Surface Finish for Fiberglass and Composites/Resins

NamPower nylon abrasive brushes are also used to improve the surface finish of parts made of fiberglass and from composites/resins. Specifically, some NamPower users have these BRM brushing tools to smooth out the fiberglass “hairs” that develop when pieces are formed. These thin strands can detract from the appearance of the part and result in surface irregularities.
