Five Gun Maintenance Tips for Flex-Hone® for Firearms Tools

Flex-Hone for FirearmsFor gun maintenance and cleaning, Flex-Hone® for Firearms tools get great results. Made in the USA by Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM), these gun tools remove residues, surface imperfections, and machining marks from any type or size of cylinder, slide, chamber, magazine tube, or smooth bore barrel. By improving cylinder surface finish, flexible honing promotes lubrication and reduces fouling, too.

Flex-Hone® for Firearms tools don’t require any special training or instruction, but there’s a right way to use BRM’s gun tools. Here are five gun maintenance tips for shooters who want to target surface finishing success in 2017.

1. Smooth Bores – Not Rifled Bores

Flex-Hone® for Firearms tools are designed for smooth bore applications such as shotgun barrels, revolver cylinders, and pistol and rifle chambers. In other words, they’re not meant for rifled barrels. That’s because rifling has raised “edges” – not surface imperfections – that support firearms performance.

2. Don’t Skip the Safety-Check

Before using the Flex-Hone® for Firearms tool, always make sure that the magazine and chamber are empty. Never skip the safety-check, even though it’s a basic rule of firearms safety that a gun should be unloaded when not in use.

Flex-Hone® for Firearms tools clean, smooth, and polish the bores of gun cylinders. But don’t neglect to protect the outer-diameter (OD) of your gun parts. For best results, secure the cylinder in a padded vise.

4. Secure and Lubricate the Tool

The Flex-Hone® for Firearms has a metal stem that supports its use with handheld power tools such as electric drills. Always lubricate the gun tool generously, preferably with Flex-Hone® oil. Then, before entering the cylinder, spin the Flex-Hone® for Firearms to remove the excess oil.

5. Keep Spinning and Stroke Smoothly

With the gun cylinder held in a padded vise, rotate the Flex-Hone® for Firearms tool prior to entry. Stroke the tool at a smooth, constant speed. Continue to spin until the Flex-Hone® is fully removed from the cylinder.
